Abstract:
This study explores the implementation of Energy Management Systems (EMS) in the Hayatabad industrial estate, focusing on the steel and packaging industries. We identify the top barriers and drivers that influence EMS adoption. In the steel industry, key drivers include improved working conditions, access to outside financing, government legislation, and energy guidance programs. Packaging companies are driven by factors such as energy expert support and the threat of rising energy prices. However, significant barriers exist, including lack of information, disruption costs, and uncertainty in the packaging sector, while the steel industry faces challenges due to employee disengagement, a lack of awareness, and inadequate access to capital. To address these barriers and promote EMS adoption, we recommend policy tools that leverage computing technologies. These include smart grid integration incentives, real-time monitoring and targeting programs, and cloud-based energy management platforms. We also emphasize the importance of top management commitment, investment in training and awareness programs, the development of green investment products, and the strengthening of the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency (NEECA). By implementing these recommendations, policymakers can create an environment that is more conducive to EMS adoption in the Hayatabad industrial estate
